I remember back when I was younger, I’m talking middle school days, you could always catch me in bed reading a book. Then high school hit and right after that was college and I found myself neglecting one of my favorite past time. Books were my getaway from life and people; it was also my stress reliever during times I felt I was losing it. I could open a book and be in a completely different world or even learn new things that contributed to my growth as an individual. Well as of August 2015 I have decided to go back to the basics. I’m setting a goal for myself which is to read at least one book a month for the rest of the year. This might sound like it’s going to be a walk in the park, but when I factor in the long hours I spend at work, wanting to spend quality time with the significant other, family, and friends, as well as catch up on sleep then this turns into a daunting task. Nonetheless, I’m determined to get my life scheduled out where I can have time to indulge in a good read, but maintain healthy relationships with the people in my life as well as a healthy lifestyle. In order to hold myself accountable I am going to do two things. First, I am going to get an accountability buddy, my boo! I’m going to make sure that he checks in with me at the beginning of the month and the middle of the month to see how it is going. Secondly, I am going to be writing book reviews on my blog. So whether it is nonfiction, fiction, inspirational, or whatever it may be I will make some sort of post saying what I liked and disliked about the book and also if I would recommend it.
So for this new journey I’m going to begin by finishing a book I started awhile ago but never got a chance to finish. It wasn’t that they book wasn’t good because it was but life happened and I had other things to focus on at the time such as graduating lol. Since it is already the middle of August I might as well do a book that I am already in the middle of and that book is Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Now if you know me then you probably know I adore this woman and the amount of courage and strength she exhibits. She is the type of woman I do eventually want to become; unapologetic, wise, courageous, intelligent, strong willed. I had the opportunity to meet her during her book tour and even got her to autograph my book which I don’t play about lol. If I let you borrow my Americanah book I better get it back in a timely fashion, there’s no such thing as forgetting. I’m excitied to finish this book and hopefully I meet my end of the month goal. I believe cutting down on my social media activity and such should help me as well. You don’t know how time consuming social media is until that day you say let me just look at my timeline for a second and that second turns into an hour. Like whaaaaa! Where did the time go? Anyways be on the look out the weekend of August 29th for my personal book review of Americanah.
